En route to his latest Formula 2 victory in Sochi earlier today, Mick Schumacher crafted an overtaking manoeuvre which would make even his legendary father proud. Schumacher sold one of his title rivals, Yuki Tsunoda, a dummy into Turn 2 of the Russian Grand Prix at Sochi, forcing the Japanese driver to run deep into corner entry. This allowed Schumacher to overtake Tsunoda on exit, seconds later. Schumacher had earlier passed Indian driver Jehan Daruvala off the start line to take second position, and thereafter demonstrated intelligent tyre management where Tsunoda may have faltered.
Mick’s on-track heroics evoked memories of Schumacher’s father Michael, widely regarded as the greatest Formula 1 driver of all time. You can watch Mick’s “Schumacher Switchback” on Tsunoda at 2.46 seconds of this video, and compare it with a similar move by Michael Schumacher on then title rival Juan Pablo Montoya into turn 1 of the 2002 Australian Grand Prix.
With this victory, Mick Schumacher extends his lead in the F2 championship further, with only three races left in the season. The Citti Media team in India pray for Mick’s continued success, and for Michael’s good health and recovery. #keepfightingmichael
